Bishop Celebrates Thanksgiving Mass with Graduating Class at Federal University Dutsinma.
Dutsinma, Katsina State, Nigeria – April 27, 2025
The Catholic community of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) Chaplaincy today witnessed a vibrant and emotional Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by the Bishop of Katsina Diocese. The Mass, held at the university grounds, also marked the graduation of the chaplaincy’s final year students and featured the inauguration of the new chaplaincy council.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome from the Chaplain, Reverend Father Amos John Bahywa, who expressed his profound gratitude to everyone present, especially the Bishop, for gracing the occasion and celebrating the significant milestone with the students.
In his homily, the Bishop conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Chaplain for organizing the uplifting event and extended his thanks to the entire congregation. He then shared his recurring sentiments upon visiting the chaplaincy, a blend of joy and concern. The Bishop expressed his happiness at the large number of students actively participating in their faith, demonstrating a strong spiritual presence despite the prevailing security challenges in the region. However, this joy was tempered by sadness at the lack of a dedicated and adequate place of worship for the burgeoning student population, who currently gather for services outdoors.
The Bishop also warmly welcomed Reverend Father Solomon Zaku, the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) and Holy Childhood Association (HCA), who was present following his participation as a resource person in the just concluded General Assembly of the Diocese.

Reflecting on the significance of Divine Mercy Sunday, the Bishop centered his homily on the boundless mercy of God and the importance of confession. He eloquently illustrated his message through compelling stories, relatable examples, and insightful quotes from saints, emphasizing the spiritual benefits of drawing closer to God.
Turning his attention to the graduating students, the Bishop offered words of encouragement and guidance as they prepare to embark on a new chapter. He urged them to venture into the world and become agents of positive change. In a practical piece of advice, he encouraged the graduates to prioritize acquiring diverse skills rather than solely depending on securing large corporate jobs, highlighting the value and potential of entrepreneurial pursuits. He concluded his address by offering his blessings and well wishes to the graduating class as they step into the wider world.
The Mass continued with heartfelt thanksgiving offerings from the graduating students, expressing their gratitude for their academic journey and spiritual growth within the chaplaincy. A significant part of the ceremony included the inauguration of the newly elected chaplaincy council and its executive members, entrusting them with the responsibility of guiding the spiritual affairs of the student community.
In a moving gesture of appreciation, an award was presented to the dedicated Chaplain, Reverend Father Amos John Bahywa, in recognition of his tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the spiritual well-being of the students. The graduating students then received a special blessing as they prepare to transition into their post-university lives, followed by the final blessing concluding the solemn and celebratory Mass.
